How is your daily life?
It depends. For instance, now that I am promoting my book, my timetables are crazy and my days are lled with interviews (Espido Freire just published “Llamadme Alejandra”, by Planeta ). I spend most of my time reading, that’s how I get to read 300 books a year, as part of my continuous learning. I spend a lot of time studying and researching di erent subjects. I also create contents for social networks and write tales for Cadena SER (radio station).
I organise my time according to the activities I have scheduled for the day— if there is a television recording or a conference, it determines my day. I organise my timetables so I don’t have to work the whole day, which is something I used to do before. I try not to work a lot, but I still have to work everyday. I focus easily and make the best use of my time, I’m used to travel, and I don’t have any children, so I can organise my life as I want.
You do read a lot. Which are your favourite writers?
In my case, reading goes hand in hand with my job. I am open to almost anything, regardless of the author. I tend to focus on the subject or the perspective, rather than the author. For instance, I read lots of essays, because I write essays. It is easy to guess the novel trends, but essays are more diverse. I usually look for a certain subject or period that I’m interested in and read everything that comes my way. I also know many publishing houses that send me books that I might like, and they are almost always right. As an English philologist, I specialised in English authors, so I really like the Brontë sisters, Jane Austen, and Shakespeare’s tragedies. I read them very o en.
What does it take to write a novel such as Llamadme Alejandra?,
Passion? Years of work and research?
You have to harness your passion. is book is quite peculiar because when I started working on it, I thought it would be a biography or an essay and the approach was di erent, more of a documentary. ere are books, journals, articles... but now with the internet you can access forums and nd even more information.
