Galicia, a different place
The Northwest of Spain is experiencing a revolution with
its local varieties of white and red wines, recovered from historic denominations such as Ribeiro, or emerging ones such as Valdeorras, Ribeira Sacra, and Monterrei.
Manuel Formigo
Cholo (Ribeiro)
e loureira white grape has always been a complementary variety in Ribeiro or in Valle del Rosal. It’s the last generation of a long lineage of Galician vine-growers that Manuel Formigo wants to promote by making a unique wine and highlighting its citric nature and elegant acidity. is Cholo, of which 1,500 bottles are available, is produced from vines older than 30 years from the Moñotiera farm, located on the banks of the Navia river, with granite soils that give this wine a mineral touch, ideal to be matched with ceviche or marinated sh.
Albamar
Ceibo 2015 (Valdeorras)
Albamar is a family winery that in just 5 years has become a renowned name along the Rías Baixas thanks to its precise white wines and oceanic red wines. e credit of this sucess goes to Xurxo Alba Padín, one of the children of the family that took over the winery in 2006 to take organic vine-growing and natural fermentation one step further. Ceibo constitutes the rst step of his new project in Valdeorras: only 3,500 bottles of Godello from the vineyards of La Ermita are available. ese vineyards are located at an altitude of 550 metres, in soils of clay, granite, and quartz that give wine enough quality to be matched with a Galician skate or a grilled turbot.
